Cedar Hill Baseball Concession Stands

A ll is quiet at this time in regard to little league baseball in Cedar Hill.  But come the end of March 2015, Valley Ridge Park in Cedar Hill will be a beehive of activity as the 2015 spring baseball season begins.  Opening day is scheduled for the weekend of March 21st and will continue through June 28th with the culmination being the Little League World Series the last week of June, 2015.

Operating the concession stands in Cedar Hill at the request of the Cedar Hill Baseball Association is a privilege and a money making proposition for the Cedar Hill Baseball Association and the Knights of this council.  Last year during the spring baseball season we attended more than 500 games and Knights worked approximately 1,800 man/hours to serve food and drinks to players, coaches, parents and fans.  For sure, this activity is the number one fund raiser for the council; but does not come without a lot of volunteer hours.

To put some perspective on the magnitude of this effort, during the spring baseball season in 2012, volunteer Knights served approximately:

  • 2,500 hot dogs
  • over 10,000 drinks
  • 1,800 nachos
  • 1,500 French Fries
  • 630 pickles and
  • over 2,000 pickle pops

Games were held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings beginning at 6:00PM and all day Saturday starting at 8:00AM. Jim Richardson headed the Monday night team, Dick Bates the Tuesday night team and Frank Salazar the Thursday night team. Ed O’Brien opened the concession stand every Saturday morning.

During the 4 tournaments about 60 different Knights worked at different times to make this year a success. During the five day World Series in 2012 the Knights had sales in excess of $20,000. Knights have been operating these concession stands for the past 5 years. We will need many volunteer Knights again this coming year.

Watch this site for an opportunity to help as the next season draws near.

James Smith

Inside Guard

The primary duty of the Inside Guard is to monitor the door to the council chamber during business meetings and admit only those with a current membership card.  He may be called upon from time to time to maintain order during the meeting as requested by the Grand Knight. James joined the Knights of Columbus in February 2013. James is a retired phlebotomist. He and wife Judy have been members of Holy Spirit for 31 years and enjoy their 5 children and 13 grandkids. The Smiths live in Duncanville.

Allen Reitmeier

Baseball Concessions Director

Allen Reitmeier is the Knight who coordinates all the activities involving the operation of the concession stands. Allen, the recipient of the 2010 Knight of the Year award has been a Knight since November 2007 when he was invited to a Knights of Columbus insurance meeting where Bob Foster handed him his first Form 100. Allen became an active Knight right away by helping with the baseball concessions and finally taking it over in the Fall of 2008. Allen was instrumental in attaining the Cedar Hill concessions and has been the main contributor to its success. A lot of hard work goes into planning, running and organizing this highly successful money-maker and is one of the key reasons for the success of our Council. Allen also started the Awareness committee to increase communication in our council. In just over three years this project became an enormous success producing thirteen newsletters and dozens of articles, some published in the Texas Catholic and Columbia Magazine. What started out as a simple tool of communication has blossomed into a media mecca where everyone can read about all of our service program activities, upcoming events, etc., and this has been instrumental in new member recruitment. Allen is a Newsletter and Website Copy Writer, and he manages our Email List database.
