Dan Murphy

Community Activities Director

In his capacity as our director of community activities, Dan Murphy oversees the annual cookout at the V.A. hospital. Not coincidentally, he has organized the parish’s annual Veterans Day dinner and program for seven years. Dan is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was active military 1975-95, so activities with and honoring veterans are special to him. After retiring from the Navy, he coordinated R.O.T.C. programs at area high schools through 2012-13. Dan joined the Knights in 1998 and was our Grand Knight during the fraternal years of 2002-03 and 2003-04. The parish’s Lenten fish fries started during Dan’s term as Grand Knight when Father Tim Heines sought an alternative to the soup suppers that had been held. His wife Pat is a hospice field nurse for Lion Hospice Care. The Murphys live in Dallas and have been married since 1975.

Holy Trinity Seminary Cookout Fall 2017

As long time supporters of the religious vocations our council sponsors two Seminarians via our MVP program at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas. But twice during the year the council also provides a full meal for the seminarians and those occasions usually turn into relaxing outdoor picnics and movie night events. This past Saturday was no exception…

Spring cookout at St. Joseph’s

To say that the residents of St. Joseph’s Residence in Oak Cliff eagerly anticipate our semi-annual cookouts there is an understatement. The Knights of Council 8157 demonstrated our respect and appreciation for the Veterans’ military service at the VA Hospital in Dallas once again this past Saturday November 14. St. Joseph’s Residence Fall 2015 Cookout

f all the community activities we perform in our council, the bi-annual St. Joseph’s Residence Cookout seems to be consistently one of the more spiritually rewarding for the Knights who participate. Maybe it’s the warm welcome we receive from the staff and the smiles on the faces of the senior residents as they watch us set up with anticipation….
