Charity

There is no better way to experience love and
compassion than by helping those in need,
a call Knights answer every day.

Unity

Knights banded together can accomplish more
than any of us could accomplish individually
in support of our Church and priests.

Fraternity

Knights socialize together and take care of each other –
we have each others’ back.

Patriotism

Members of the Knights of Columbus are proud
of our devotion to God and country,
and believe in standing up for both.

Knight of the Month Archives

Each month a Knight of this Council is selected the Knight of the Month because of his contribution to the success of the Council and/or by his actions demonstrated his commitment to the principles of Charity, Unity, and  Fraternity.   He could be awarded Knight of the Month for his efforts on a specific event or an accumulation of actions that warrant his selection. Nominations are accepted, discussed and voted upon during the regular Officers and Directors meeting held monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.  The Family Activity Director administers the Knight of the Month process from nomination to awarding the recipient his certificate.   All Knights in good standing are eligible for this award.

David Dybala

Knight of the Month – November 2017

David Dybala David is a soft-spoken leader by example in our council, which he has been a member of since 1985. He’s one of the “go-to” workers when a Knight Hands project needs to be tackled. David, power drill in hand, is typically one of the first helpers to arrive when it’s time to set…

Knight of the Month – September 2017

Jim Russell Jim recently began his fifth fraternal year as the council’s Lecturer, a position that had stood vacant for years before he responded to an invitation from Andy Goza. He puts great time and effort into each talk. No topic is really off limits, except maybe politics. Jim favors history, ancestry and patriotism. Some…

Knight of the Month – August 2017

Jim Stavinoha Jim has certainly put his stamp on the position of director of church activities in his two-plus years on the job. He has added multiple new activities and put great effort and creativity in expanding existing events. Jim and wife Sharon live in Cedar Hill. He grew up south of San Antonio in…

steve-castillo

Knight of the Month – July 2017

Steve Castillo Steve enjoys working “the back” at the council’s Valley Ridge youth baseball concession stand in Cedar Hill. That’s short for being the cook, responsible for preparing hot dogs, hot links, chicken sandwiches, brisket sandwiches, nachos and Frito pies. Steve minces no words in identifying his primary reason working the middle shift each Saturday…

Larry Balagna at Knight-Hands PIP Days 2017

Knight of the Month – June 2017

Larry Balagna Larry is a tireless, versatile worker who seemingly arrives at any Knights activity with the proper tool and a smile. He most recently was part of the workforce that made the parish’s annual Pentecost picnic (and anniversary celebration) the best ever in the opinion of multiple parish employees. Larry often appears in…

deacon-al-evans

Knight of the Month – May 2017

Deacon Al Evans Al notes that one of the great gifts of being a deacon is to both serve as a member of the clergy while also being a parishioner. Deacon Al was a frequent participant during the recent series of Lenten fish fries, literally frying the fish — and also doing some breading when…

hector-rubio

Knight of the Month – April 2017

Hector Rubio   Hector has found his niche in our Valley Ridge baseball concession stand: fries and popcorn, though he also helps elsewhere, especially toward the end of a shift. “I guess I’m appreciated,” he notes. He certainly is. Hector joined the council in January 2016, taking his First Degree, and added his major degree…

Jeff Traub

Knight of the Month – March 2017

Jeffrey Traub Special Olympics has long been an emphasis of the Order, and, Jeffrey has been involved in that as both a participant and coach. He joined our council last May and added his major degrees the following month. Jeffrey lives in Duncanville and often walks to Mass. He most often attends the 5:30 Saturday…

Knight of the Month – February 2017

Greg Warr Greg has been a member of our council since late in 2012 and has become a valuable contributor to the committee that oversees our baseball concessions operations in Cedar Hill. Greg is a native Arkansan and originally joined the Order in 1980. He came to Texas to follow his father in the telecommunications…

Knight of the Month – January 2017

Dan Keough Dan has been a valued influence on parish life at Holy Spirit for decades and has brought that same energy and commitment to KC business since joining the council in October 2015 – about 10 years after he was first pursued, as he recalls it. Dan is a proud Hoosier who came to…

Knight of the Month – December 2016

Jim Ouimet First, let’s clarify the French pronunciation of Jim’s last name (WE-may). Jim was part of the foundation of our new efforts operating the concession stand for the Cedar Hill football association this past fall. Jim came early and stayed late just about every week, diligently working in the “fry division” located back behind…

Knight of the Month – November 2016

John Espree John captains our “leadoff shift” at the Valley Ridge baseball concession stand on Saturdays throughout both the spring and fall seasons. He joined our council in March 2012, taking advantage of our “Knight in a Day” program to take the first three degrees in one fell swoop. He’s a sound man for 8157’s degree…
