Charity

There is no better way to experience love and
compassion than by helping those in need,
a call Knights answer every day.

Unity

Knights banded together can accomplish more
than any of us could accomplish individually
in support of our Church and priests.

Fraternity

Knights socialize together and take care of each other –
we have each others’ back.

Patriotism

Members of the Knights of Columbus are proud
of our devotion to God and country,
and believe in standing up for both.

Knight of the Month Archives

Each month a Knight of this Council is selected the Knight of the Month because of his contribution to the success of the Council and/or by his actions demonstrated his commitment to the principles of Charity, Unity, and  Fraternity.   He could be awarded Knight of the Month for his efforts on a specific event or an accumulation of actions that warrant his selection. Nominations are accepted, discussed and voted upon during the regular Officers and Directors meeting held monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.  The Family Activity Director administers the Knight of the Month process from nomination to awarding the recipient his certificate.   All Knights in good standing are eligible for this award.

Knight of the Month – January 2015

Gilbert Zuñiga, Sr. Gilbert’s adult life has been dominated by trucks – first driving, then owning. But on the morning of Holy Spirit’s annual Breakfast with St. Nicholas in mid-December, we learned the man can wield a mean spatula and prepare French toast at a rapid pace. Gilbert and son Gilbert, Jr. joined the council…

Knight of the Month – December 2014

Cris Valdez When informed he’d been named Knight of the Month for December given he has been a “whirling dervish” in recent weeks, Cris laughed and said, “I don’t know what that means!” To wit, Cris helped the council at St. Elizabeth’s fall carnival in late October before even joining the Knights a few days…

Sir Knight Larry Balagna

Knight of the Month – November 2014

Larry Balagna David Dybala said every time he got ready to take care of something in his capacity as the logistics manager at the parish’s recent Fall Festival, Larry had already done it. That was Larry’s M.O. for so many years, mostly recently as Northwood University’s event coordinator, before retiring in October 2013. He and…

Knight of the Month – October 2014

Jack Ramsden “Keep on Truckin’ “was the theme song for Jack Ramsden in recent months. He spent 200 hours helping to prepare for the Fall Festival, much of that hauling various items large and, well, larger to Holy Spirit. On one particular mission, he and his helpers spent four days going through a house, garage…

Knight of the Month – September 2014

Mike Moloughney Mike took both his first and major degrees early in 2005 and is scheduled to advance to the Fourth Degree on Sept. 27. “Just bought my tux,” he noted.  His list of council and Holy Spirit activities includes serving as 8157’s Pro Life Director and doubling that up under the parish’s outreach ministry,…

james-smith-2013

Knight of the Month – August 2014

James Smith We unfortunately don’t see enough of James these days because he’s wrestling with a painful knee condition. It takes something like that to slow him down. He’s been active since joining the council in February 2013. James signed on this past year as a member of Allen Reitmeier’s new baseball operations committee and…

Knight of the Month – July 2014

Jim Stavinoha Jim wasted little time becoming involved after joining the council in April. He worked the concession stand counter during the youth baseball World Series, cooked during both the parish’s 40th anniversary picnic and the Vacation Bible School finale and helped with the set-up for the Fall Festival rummage operation. Jim is in his…

Knight of the Month – June 2014

Frank Salazar Well before most of the estimated 1,100 Holy Spirit parishioners were on site for the parish’s 40th anniversary Mass and picnic on June 8, Frank and his cooking mitts were hovering over the council grill. “This is what it’s all about,” he said as a handful of brother Knights started cooking hundreds of…

Knight of the Month – May 2014

Ken Rarick Ken estimates he was working in some fashion from the time he was 9 years old until he retired from the manufactured housing business seven years ago. Now, Ken is typically the first Knight to volunteer his services to assist Knight Hands committee chairman Allen Reitmeier on jobs that help members of our…

Knight of the Month – April 2014

Bennie Sikorski Personally congratulating Bennie on being named the council’s Knight of the Month for April anytime soon will require either substantial disposable income or a heap of frequent-flier miles. Bennie is making one of his regular trips to visit his daughter, Belinda, who is stationed in Germany and works for the Department of Defense…

Knight of the Month – March 2014

Rod Kinard hen attending or working at any of the fish fry dinners this Lenten season, take a moment to appreciate that Rod took it upon himself a few weeks back to spend twelve hours cleaning the council’s deep fryer by himself. If you’re thinking Rod did that as penance of some sort, there’s a…

art-senato

Knight of the Month – February 2014

Art Senato Maybe we should retire the February Knight of the Month award for Art Senato since he has repeated in earning that distinction for the second consecutive year. Any month would likely be a fitting month to honor Art, a Knight since 1974 and a Holy Spirit parishioner since 2005. In his capacity…
