David and Veronica Ybarra

David and Veronica met as teenagers, both invited to a get-together in their hometown of El Paso. Well, it was David’s hometown given that his father moved the family there from Chicago when he was young, to be closer to other relatives. They were married in May 1978 at Fort Bliss and have been Holy Spirit parishioners since 2003. Many of us are familiar with how the Ybarras took in Veronica’s elderly parents, Juan and Amelia, eight years ago to provide full-time care in their Waxahachie home. Taking the centenarians on outings to Lone Star Park made it to ESPN.com and Channel 8 news. Her parents passed away late last year within a few weeks of each other, Amelia at age 109 and Juan 108. Helping family, helping anyone has been David’s longtime passion. He joined the Knights in March 2008 at the invitation of the late David Briggs, took his major degrees three months later and eventually added a Fourth Degree membership. David is active both within the council (including Knight Hands) and in the parish (a regular Hospitality Minister on Sunday mornings).
