Family of the Month – November 2021: Ed and Betty O’Brien
The two Catholic high schools in Syracuse, New York were fierce rivals – St. John the Baptist and Assumption. Ed attended the former, Betty the latter. They met at a basketball game. Both were winners – Ed and Betty, that is. They were married on Nov. 5, 1955; your math will tell you they recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. The O’Briens left upstate New York for north Texas in the late 1970s when Ed started a business cleaning industrial uniforms. He joined 8157 in 2000 at the urging of Ron Suriano and Jesse Gonzalez and is also a member of Fourth Degree Assembly 2799. Ed served as our Grand Knight during the fraternal years of 2004-05 and ’05-06. The O’Briens live in Duncanville and have five grown children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
