SACRED SCRIPTURE AND REVEALED TRUTH

Part #1

Holy Bible

The Catholic Church, founded by Jesus Christ, has spread the teachings of the gospel to every tribe, race and nation in every age for the past 2,000 years. The Holy Bible comprising both the Old and New Testament was combined together by the Church guided by the Holy Spirit.  Let no one say, therefore, that our faith is not Bible based.  We (the Catholic Church) produced the first Bible.

Through Holy Scripture and the work of the Church we have come to know how God works in man throughout time, i.e; why creation began, how it has unfolded and how it all ends.  “…then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The former heaven and the former earth had passed away.” Rev. 21-1

What has been revealed up until now is the eternal message of God, i.e;  the salvation of man through the sacrifice and redemptive work of Jesus and by extension His Church here on earth. The Church encourages all its members to study scripture to deepen their knowledge of their faith.  Faith must be informed by all aspects of truth. These aspects include;

  1. Sacred scripture
  2. Apostolic succession & Tradition
  3. Church Magisterium (councils, synods, papal writings etc.)
St-Thomas-Aquinas-Catholic-Church-Dallas

These tenets make up the Catholic core belief which must always combine the study of scripture with twenty centuries of Church teaching and good works. WHY ?

  1. To proclaim the truth of the gospels
  2. To deepen our understanding and reasons for our faith
  3. To better our Christian walk i.e;  what it means to lead a Christian life
  4. To better our missionary work-bringing more souls to Christ
  5. To expand our own internal spiritual growth

As Knights we bind our study with our good works especially charity.   “…a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.”   James 2-24.  And I James 1-27 “ care for orphans and widows and their afflictions and keep oneself unstained by the world.”
