Spanish Speaking Members -At the June Officers and Directors meeting the main topic of discussion was how to incorporate information in Spanish at our general membership meetings. This is for the benefit of our new Spanish-speaking members. The decision was made to use an application that translates in real time and is projected onto a screen. This is in development and will be implemented in the near future.
Academic Scholarship Program –Two applications have been received for our student scholarship program. The two applicants are daughters of two current Knights. The scholarship committee consisting of Dan Murphy, Mike Fitzgerald, and Steve Zehnder are reviewing the two applications and a decision will be made soon.

Knights of Columbus State Convention at Sheraton Report–The meeting took place 05/05-07/2023 in Dallas. This was the first time our current Grand Knight, Mike Fitzgerald, attended as a delegate. Last year’s delegate at the state convention was Tom Greco. Mike said it a wonderful experience, and Mike thanked the Council for sending him as a delegate. The Texas State Council Deputy would read motions to be considered would say in rapid fire “Is there any discussion three times in succession, then hit the gavel and declare “Approved.” The best event was a speech by Ron Gay. He said the most important people in the world are Dads. “You are the most important people in the lives of your family. Put your phone in your pocket and spend time with your family. “
Jim Kowalski was the director at the registration desk at the Convention. Several volunteers from our Council manned the registration desk.
Jorge Ruiz was the Vice President for the Diocese of Dallas Chapter, and he played a big part in the planning of this great event. He also helped in creating the Program for the Convention.
Cardinal Daniel from The Diocese of Houston-Galveston celebrated the Mass on Saturday, and our own Bishop Burns celebrated the Mass on Sunday. He spoke about the Allen Outlet Mall tragedy.
He attended a breakout session on recruiting new members. Simply ask the prospect, “Do you want to help our priest(s)?” If they answer, yes, ask them to join our K of C group, as many of our service projects are done at the request of our priests. If the answer is no, move on to another prospect. Don’t waste your time.
At the convention, you always had to show your registration card to enter the ballroom.
A presentation was made indicating that the original mission of Christopher Columbus was not to discover the New World but rather spread the Good News via evangelization and share the message that through His passion, death, and resurrection, Jesus had saved all of Mankind.
Bowl for the Knight of the Year –The bowl is still at the engraver’s per Jim Russell
Thirty Year Ordination Celebration/Farewell Celebration for Fr. Steve and Fr. Eugene –Two knights, Steve Zehnder and David Dybala were co-Masters of Ceremony. Many other knights and their families were in attendance. The event was well attended.
