MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.

Grand Knight remarks:

Tonight’s meeting will be a bit different. We have several things that we need to get finished.  The first is the election of next years officers which will be handled by our District Deputy. We will also talk about the budget for next year and hopefully take the first vote. We have to discuss the 30th anniversary celebration for Father Eugene and Father Steve, as well as their leaving celebration. We have a wheelchair drive that’s still pending. To the best of my knowledge, no scholarship applications have been received. There is a funeral Friday, the family of Francisco Hernandez has asked that the Knights be present.

And the next item on the list would be the July meeting. Which is currently scheduled for July 4th. So the next general meeting will be July 6th, Thursday evening here.

I now turn the meeting over to our District Deputy- SK Kebren Alexander

I’m going to go over the offices. And the candidate or candidates that are identified for each office. I have to ,at least ask if anyone else would like to be nominated from the floor. I have to ask those three times. At the end of my third time, I will solicit an invitation to close nominations with the name or names that are in candidacy. Last story short, after we go through all of the offices. If there is only one person running, we’re going to elect all of those offices for which there’s one candidate. If there is an office where someone chooses to run from the floor, if there are more than one candidate will then.  Right by raising hands. Who wants Candidate A? Who wants Candidate B? Candidate C? And that way we will hopefully expedite. Everybody understands what we’re talking about and how this is going to go. OK.

The following individuals were motioned, accepted, and elected as Officers for 2023-2024 calendar year. District Deputy recognized, with no objections for the following elections.

A motion was made to use budget funds to purchase 4 wheelchairs. A 2nd was motioned.  There was no additional discussion and the motion passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT (JAMES SMITH):  Financial status of Council.

GK-Baseball is starting to pay off. Need help this coming weekend!!!

DIRECTOR OF FAITH COMMITTEE (DEACON AL)-Absent

CHURCH ACTIVITIES – SK James Smith- Fr. Eugene and Fr. Steve’s 30th anniversary and their farewell party is on the 17th.  The 4th degree is having a party this Sunday for Assembly’s 20th anniversary. You should RSVP from a letter you received.

GK- The anniversary celebration we been asked to have Knights present, in their shirts. The celebration will take place after 5:00 o’clock Saturday evening Mass. Everyone then will be invited to come over here for a reception dinner. They want the 4th degree if possible, to escort the priests. They want the Council to basically do two things. One is controlling the parking if there’s a problem. And two, to make sure that everyone comes in the door all the way down that hall. We will have seating reserved for the Knights who sign up to do this, your wives will have reserved seating at this side of the gym. They would like to have us in our Council shirts. There’s going to be Filipino food, African community food and Spanish food. There is a volunteer signup sheet being passed around now.

DIRECTOR OF FAMILY COMMITTEE- SK DAVID DYBALA- No report

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY REPORT- DAN MURPHY/DAVID YBARRA- Last Saturday at Saint Joseph’s Nursing Home, over 20 people showed up to work. We had a couple of new newbies. Jeff Miller has been there, wife Francis first time. They had supposedly 86 residents to be served. It went very well and they were very appreciative. The nuns really kind of mixed with the people a lot more than in the past. So we’ll do it again next fall, it’s a great opportunity to go out and see people heal.

Francisco Hernandez passed this past Monday at about 6:00 o’clock in the morning under Hospice care. A lot of you don’t know him because he hasn’t been active the last few years because his wife Rita is pretty much homebound. When I joined, he was extremely active and was for many, many years after that. So the funeral is going to be 11:00 o’clock this Saturday, this Friday here at church. going.  He was a 4th degree; James is going to see if he can get a fourth degree escort. If you are attending the funeral, check with James and make sure any help is needed, as far as escorting the body up to the altar and back down again. There will be a reception at his house, afterwards over in Cedar Hill.

COUNCIL ACTIVITIES- need a volunteer.

BASEBALL CONCESSIONS- SK JAMES SMITH- No Report

KNIGHT HANDS- SK DAVID DYBOLA- David reported on completed projects since the last meeting.

FALL FESTIVAL- Rummage sale in August, maybe for 3 weekends. Cannot set up for rummage until after July 4 weekend.

DIRECTOR OF LIFE COMMITTEE- SK MIKE MOLOUGHNEY- I want to mention that we’re going to be, we’re partnering all the pro-life communities in all parishes, partnering with the Catholic Charities. About adoption, there will be a free adoption training on June 16th at the Catholic Charities Office to discuss adoption, compensation and the process of adoption. And we also have Catholic Charities as a adoption counselor for those women now that they don’t have abortions, they if they want to consider they’ll help them to set their big up for adoption if that.

The pro-life Dinner was successful, reaching their goal for this year.

Financial Secretary- SK Pete Perta- Membership stands at 217, which takes into account the loss of Eric Connor and Francisco Hernandez. Eric was only 56. Francisco would have been 87 in July. Current year membership with 58% will get all due statements mailed out. Star Council Progress 4th. Quarter report. Our goal was 14 and we are at 6. And as far as the Knight in Need fund, we did utilize the Knight in Need fund to help with the burial expenses for Eric Conner. Many donations some Knights actually made direct donations to Eric’s family taking care of it. Other donations they made personally, at least so far, $XX. We donated XX to our Knight in Need fund, still stands at $XX.

Now as far as the budget, so every year we do a budget, you know, it’s our tool to make sure we’re just not spending all our money. It runs the council year July 1st through June 30th. Let’s not calendar year. I’ll go through the different categories. Feel free to get input, question, anything say maybe we need more in that category, let’s kind of go through it.

Budget was explained and discussed in detail, with some amounts to categories motioned to have adjusted, and motions passed.

Historically, Council has always spent only 70-75% of budget.

1st Motioned passed for yearly Budget.
