Rick Doucette, our Grand Knight for the 1989-90, 1990-91 and 1991-92 fraternal years, is proof that two terms is not a time or effort limitation if a need is still there.Rick continued publishing the Knights of the Spirit newsletter until June 2007 as a service to Council #8157. Rick joined the Knights in 1982 at St Mark the EvangelistCouncil #7613 in San Antonio, Texas. He moved to the Duncanville area and joinedHoly Spirit parish and Council #8157 in 1987. Rick says the proudest part of beingGrand Knight “was working with great men and their families to create a strong group of friends and contributors to the parish and community. His biggest accomplishment was “making the Council more active in service to others”. He was able to expand the service the Council provided to the parish and the outside community.During his tenure, the Men’s Club at Holy Spirit disbanded and the active members of the Men’s Club joined the Knights of Columbus and Council #8157 assumed part of the Men’s Club role in the parish. During his young years, Rick moved a few times.
Rick lived in New Bedford, Mass. and at age 7, moved to Los Angeles, California. At age 16, he moved back to Mass. and lived in Swansea until age 18. Rick went to high school at James Monroe high I Sepulveda, California and Joseph Case High School in Swansea, Mass. Rick attended Lowell Technological Institute prior to leaving for the Air Force from 1971 until1991 and retired as a Major Services Officer. From 1991 until thru 2011, his very active career consisted of jobs as Forum Leader, Computing Forums, America Online; owner of Doucette’s Desktop (Mac computer graphics); Professional Software Tester at Adobe Corporation; Journalist/graphics/layout ofToday’s Catholic Newspaper, Archdiocese of San Antonio and Social Concerns & Pro-Life Associate Director and Acting Director of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. In 2011 Rick caught his breath and retired. Rick met his wife Pat at St. Dominic’s Church in San Antonio, Texas and was married in the same church on December22, 1979 and they have been married for 32 years. Rick and Pat have a daughter, Lydia, age 16.
