Gilbert and his son joined the council together, invited by John Espree. Gilbert was born in Kaufman but has lived in Dallas since 1946. He graduated from Crozier Tech and went into the trucking business. He retired in 2007 after more than 50 years and passed the business along to “Junior.” Gilbert and wife Zonia have been married for 43 years. They attend St. Mary of Carmel parish near Pinkston High in north Oak Cliff. They have two sons and four daughters.
