When it comes to council recruiting efforts, Ryan Hammonds proved to be in an extremely convenient position. The Cedar Hill resident spent most of the Tuesday nights during his junior and senior years at Bishop Dunne as the parish community center night monitor at the front desk. Seems like a general membership meeting, officers-directors meeting or degree team practice didn’t go by without a Knight or two asking when he would turn 18 and be eligible to join our order. He turned 18 last November and took his First Degree in late May – along with his father, John. Ryan has long been active in Holy Spirit’s youth group and particularly recalls last winter’s “Stand for Life” trip as an “amazing” experience – even with the 26-hour bus rides each way. He made a pilgrimage to Italy and got to see Pope Benedict XVI. This fall, he’ll enroll at Irving’s University of Dallas with the goal of earning a degree in business finance and becoming a stock broker. A right-handed pitcher who played for three select teams through the years, Ryan will join the UD Crusaders baseball team. Good luck, Ryan.
