On Saturday morning Dec. 6, 2025, four Knights – Larry Balagna, Juan Espinosa, Joel Lopez and Allen Reitmeier along with Sheila Balagna and Linda Reitmeier- were among the volunteers who arrived at 6100 Cedar Springs Rd in Dallas to pack Boxes of Blessing. These Boxes of Blessing are food items to be distributed to the needy in the Dallas area. The event is organized and administered by the Park City Presbyterian Church (PCPC). Many of the volunteers were from the PCPC, but other churches and organization were also represented – like our Knight of Columbus.

The morning started with coffee, juice, snacks, fruit, a mountain of donuts, water, and soft drinks. Promptly at 8:30am the assembly lines began moving. There were 6 assembly lines, each about 120’ long with people on both sides of the roller bed conveyers filling the Boxes of Blessing with various food items. At the end of the line the Boxes of Blessing were closed, taped shut and stacked on pallets and fork lifted onto waiting trucks. That all sounds pretty simple until you examine the magnitude of the undertaking. Mark Davis, senior pastor at PCPC said there were “north of 1,000 volunteers” on hand this day filling these Boxes of Blessing. He went on to say that “we started Boxes of Blessing 20 years ago with about 500 boxes and today we will fill about 12,00 boxes”. You might think this was an easy going project with no real urgency. But no, the assembly lines were constantly moving and the line I worked on had 8 people just closing, taping and stacking filled boxes. Filling 12,000 boxes was an awesome job. People of all sort were there ranging from old to very young and all walks of life and nationalities. Everyone was in a happy Christmas mood – just a very joyous occasion. This is an annual event and perhaps we will see more Knights there next year. Kudos to Juan Espinosa for bringing this event to our attention.
