Council members were naturally at the forefront of Holy Spirit’s procession following celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi following the 5 p.m. Mass on Sunday, June 7. Chancellor-elect Robert Nieto worked with Fr. Uche and parish staff in the organization and volunteer involvement of the event. Robert said he first witnessed celebration of the event a year ago at the parish and was inspired to take an active role this year. And active he was with xx Knights taking part. Three Knights – John Espree, Jesus Medina and Jose Luis Ramirez – were among the four gentlemen tasked with carrying the canopy that protected the Blessed Sacrament as the procession made its way through seven stations, each featuring a temporary outdoor altar covered by an altar cloth and candles. The procession, attended by hundreds, began in the church courtyard, circled around the east parking lot, proceeded in front of the community center and finished on the west side of the church. That journey was made amid uncomfortable heat and humidity. Dozens of other Knights participated in the event’s setup, cleanup or both. They were (alphabetically) Recorder-elect Gonzalo Aillón, Isahi Arellano, Larry Balagna, Grand Knight Marc Evans, Gamaliel Hernandez, Lupe Hernandez, Miguel Hernandez (and sons David and Benjamin), Adan Luna, Moises Martinez, Jeff Miller, Will Robinson, Venacio Salinas, Jeff Traub and Manny Urias. Robert said as the event was concluding, an elderly woman approached him and said: “This was very beautiful. I’ve never participated in something like this before.” “I think a lot of people were very moved by the experience,” he added. “It was wonderful.” Indeed.
