Hector Lopez and wife Letty, the Family of the Month for May, are proud graduates of Falfurrias High School in the small town of the same name located about 80 miles north of McAllen on U.S. Highway 281. They’ve been married for 36 years. “And we dated seven years,” Hector added, “so we’ve been together … forever.” Hector graduated at age 16 because he was “smarty pants in Catholic school and the nuns skipped me a grade.” He graduated from Texas A&I (now Texas A&M-Kingsville), and Letty graduated from Southwest Texas State (now Texas State-San Marcos). Hector sought work in the Dallas area following graduation at the urging of his older sister who lived in Fort Worth. He worked 32 years in the county auditor’s office and retired last year. He ushers at Rangers home games and, yes, he was scared by that thunder-lightning episode in early July: “I thought a bomb had gone off.” Letty retired this summer from AIG. They have two children. Marisa Archuleta lives in Fort Worth with husband Joe and daughter Elise. Hector joined the Knights in 2003, about a year after fellow 9:30 Mass ushers Dick Bates, Bob Foster and Jim Kowalski first presented him with a Form 100. “When I finally turned it in,” he said, “they were shocked.”
