David Scholl passed away on January 23, 2025. David was born in St. Helene, California to Frances and Margaret Scholl – third oldest of 11 children. David was a lifelong devout Catholic and an avid political conservative. His grammar school was Holy Spirit Catholic School, he graduated from St.Vincent Ferrer High School, and had a degree from St. Mary’s college with a BA in economics. David was a writer while living in California, including his first article (1975) “Socialist Hot dogs” and later he authored/co-authored two publication (1982 and 2010). David served in the Army in artillery and tank support roles. He was proud that his service and Veteran status helped his children with tuition. He pursued his lifelong love newspapers by publishing and editing when he bought the Dixon Independent Voice in 1995. An appropriate name for his “no holds barred’ editorial critique of local, state and federal politics. David married Pat in 1995 and have three children. Those of us who got to know him when they moved from California to Texas in 2020 and transferred into council 8157, he was a great conversationalist with strong views on religion and politics. Though David tried to help with Knight activities, his health denied him this pleasure. Rest in Peace, David.
