We are men who lead, serve, protect and defend, whether we are giving out Coats for Kids, donating wheelchairs, lending a helping hand in disaster relief efforts, supporting local pregnancy centers or providing top-quality financial products.
Since 20127, the Knight of Columbus, through Knight Hands, have been participating in the Property Improvement Program in conjunction with the City of Duncanville and the 1st United Methodist Church. And so it was that on October 4th, 2025 some members of the old gang – David Dybala, Jack Ramsden and myself – donned their P.I.P t-shirts and did repairs on a home in Duncanville. These three Knights were joined by Mike Fitzgerald and Russell Gully and so in 3 hours we had the whole project completed which consisted of trimming two trees and cutting down another one, trimming a nasty bunch of bushes all around the back yard, replacing rotted wood on both sides of the garage door, installing an iron railing and a couple other minor items.
Mike Fitzgerald did the tree cutting as usual – he seems to like that kind of work. He used the pole chainsaw that we borrowed from David Dybala. David Dybala and Jack Ramsden removed the rotted wood on both sides of the garage door and installed new lumber and then painted the whole “shebang”. Russell did most of the brush trimming as well as cosmetic trimming of the front yard bushes as well as helping with the installation of the iron railing. I just kind of helped a little with all these job. The only negative incident happened when the ladder from Mike Fitzgerald truck fell off during his trip to the work site and, of course, was destroyed by traffic before Mike could retrieve it from the roadway. What a pleasure it was to work together with these Knights to help this homeowner in her time of need.
