On Wednesday September 3rd we accepted a generous donation of bottled water, big Ozarka plastic bottles (101 oz), from a friend of Brother Knight John Espree, Mersed Imamovic at HG Truck Repair in Grand Prairie. It was Food Pantry morning at Holy Spirit and there were several knights helping to unload the food truck, so John Espree called me to help him pick them up and take advantage of the manpower already there. When we arrived at the warehouse there were two heavy duty pallets stacked 5 feet high, and weighing approximately 2500 lbs each. I knew immediately this would be testing the limits of my truck and trailer, since my single axle trailer’s weight limit is rated at 3000 lbs, we would have to load one on the bed of my truck. My Diesel Chevy Silverado 2500HD can easily pull that weight but carrying half the load on the bed of the truck was a first, as was the low rider effect. I have to admit I had second thoughts as I watched the forklift operator slowly drop the weight on the bed of my truck. Although the weight pushed down hard on the suspension springs and shocks my truck handled it well, as John eagerly reassured, and we managed to slowly and carefully make our way back to Holy Spirit with only a quick stop to restack the fallen bottles in the trailer. Fortunately we arrived to find we had plenty of help to unload and stack the large cases of water bottles on the bleachers inside the gym. I don’t know exactly how many 101 oz bottles of water we have but it sure looks like we can quench the thirst of many Holy Spirit parishioners for a long time to come.
Our sincere thanks to Mersed Imamovic of HG Truck Repair in Grand Prairie, a large family owned business that repairs big rig trucks. Thanks also to John Espree and to all the brother knights on hand to help unload the cargo. Among them are, Marc Evans, John Espree, Jack Ramsden, Jeff Traub, Larry Balagna, James Smith, and Jorge Ruiz.
