We are men who lead, serve, protect and defend, whether we are giving out Coats for Kids, donating wheelchairs, lending a helping hand in disaster relief efforts, supporting local pregnancy centers or providing top-quality financial products.
Our main task on Saturday morning Aug. 23rd, 2025, was to tear out a rotted retaining wall and installing a new one. We started a 7am to beat the heat of the day and were finished around 9am. In between these times 6 Knight dug in and got the job done. The hardest part, I guess, was driving in the anchoring rods; but the guys took turns with the big hammers and got the task finished. There was also a lot of drilling so that the pieces could be screwed together.
The Knights doing this work were Miguel Hernandez, John Espree, Peter Perta, Jesus Aguirre and myself. Efrain Ochoa joined a bit later after he changed the weatherstripping on the back door of Barbara Cadman’s home. We also re-connected her bathroom sink (she said she hadn’t been able to use it for 2 years). We also hauled off a television which we will be donating to Saint Vincent DePaul on August 30th.
As always, there was much bantering and badgering as the work went on; an indication that everyone was having a good time. Peter Perta and Miguel Hernandez were Knight Hands for the first time and were major contributors to the success of this project. It is so rewarding to help someone in the community. I know all the Knight Hands on this project felt the same way. Way to go guys.
