Remembering Roy Cormier, 1933-2025

It is with great sadness that we must inform of the passing of Brother Knight Roy Cormier. Roy passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, surrounded by his family, he was 92.

We remember Roy Cormier with an article written by Brother Knight Jeff MIller in December 2020, marking his recognition as the Knight of the Month.

To say Roy is comfortable doing work around the yard is an understatement. He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana (now Louisiana Lafayette) with a degree in agricultural education and he followed 30 years in the Air Force by operating multiple Lawn Doctor franchises. At the Cormiers’ home in Ovilla, gardening goes beyond your garden variety of gardening. Roy was back at it with 10 council brothers in mid-November when the Knights stepped forward to trim trees and cut back bushes on the parish property. He heard about the “mission” through his prayer group and surprised Allen Reitmeier when he reported for duty that Saturday morning. Roy’s assignment was stacking 18-inch limbs in Jorge Ruiz’s wheelbarrow and hauling them off to David Dybala’s trailer. (Jorge offered to help, but Roy assured him he was fine solo). Roy has long been a soft-spoken contributor to the council and the parish, the latter which he and Frances joined in the early 1990s. He joined the council in April 2014 and added his major degrees in February 2015. Roy and Frances will celebrate their 60th anniversary in October 2021 and have four grown children and seven grandchildren.

Let us keep Frances, his wife of 63 plus years and their family in our thoughts and prayers.

God bless.
