Striping the Parking Lots

Because there was a shortfall in funds to resurface the parking lots on the church grounds, Fr. Uche asked that the parish re-stripe the parking lots to provide for clarity and safety. So what started out as a parish activity turned into a Knight Hands project because the only folks who showed up to do the work were Knights of Columbus. On Monday December 15th, 2025, Miguel Huizar, Jesus Montelongo, Jim Ouimet, David Ybarra, Marc Evans, and Mario Ramos started preparing the west parking lot for painting. That entailed cleaning – using brooms and blowers – the areas where the striping paint would be applied,

On Tuesday December 16th, 2025 Miguel Huizar, David Ybarra, Jim Ouimet, Mario Ramos, Dan Murphy, Gerardo Terron, Arthur Rodriguez, Roberto Diaz, and Jesse Radillo arrived to finish cleaning the west parking lot, laying out where striping lines should be and then painting the stripes on the entire west parking lot. I would point out here that some of the areas that needed cleaning were heavily covered with dirt which had to hauled off. Mario Ramos, who was in charge of this entire operation made sure all was correct before painting began.

On Wednesday December 17th, 2025, nobody worked because it was raining; but on Thursday morning December 18, 2025, Mario Ramos, Doug Karpan, Mike Fitzgerald, Gerardo Terron, Joe Eubank, David Ybarra, and Dan Murphy arrived to repeat the process on the east parking lot. We went through the same procedure as the first two days – cleaning, laying our and then painting. The rented striping machine worked well and with some roller touch-up afterward the stripes are now clearly visible.

On Friday December 19, 2025, the job was completed around noon by Joe Eubank, David Ybarra, Dan Murphy, Mario Ramos, Mike Fitzgerald, Doug Karpan and Jesse Radillo. All who worked the past 4 days were graciously invited to a luncheon at the home of Grand Knight, Marc Evans. The estimated total number of hours worked to complete this project was 104. As a group we estimated that the parish saved about $9,500 because of our efforts – nice Christmas gift to the parish. For sure, we again must be proud of the Knights of this council who never step back when there is work to be done. Yes indeed, the Knights of this council always step forward. Thanks men.
