The US Naval Academy Class of 1975 is going bike riding, halfway across the country for Charity!

They’re calling it the Gulf to Goat (G2G) Charity Bike Ride

The Great Class of 1975 has organized a charity bike ride – Gulf to Goat, or G2G – that will unite cycling classmates, family and friends in a quest for physical fitness, camaraderie, and charitable giving.  By pedaling nearly 1200 miles through our great nation – from Apalachicola, FL to USNA – these riders will honor the legacy of USNA ‘75 while supporting causes close to a classmates’ heart. The goal is to pedal with purpose, have fun, forge bonds, and make a meaningful difference one mile at a time.

Among the group of approximately 18 bike riders, which includes a highly accomplished crew of naval academy class of ’75 graduates and lifelong friends, will be our own Knight of Columbus Community Director Dan Murphy “Murph” from Duncanville, Texas. Dan has been seen recently doing training rides in our neighborhood in preparation for this ultimate challenge of riding his road bicycle roughly 100 Kilometers everyday for 22 days straight for a total of 1200 miles. Although they will be spending nights in hotels and motels along the way, the ride will be a grueling time trial of sorts since they have to arrive by a certain date in order to partake in the class reunion festivities on October 22nd. The route will climb nearly 30,000 feet elevation gain on mostly paved roads, with some max grade ascents of 8%. The riders will have a support vehicle following them along the route which in the month of October may include some unpredictable weather as they ride across 6 states starting from Florida, and going through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland.

Why are they doing this you might ask?

To raise money to help support some of their favorite charities during their 50th Anniversary of the USNA Class of 1975. The riders invite you, your family and friends to donate and help support their charities listed below:

The G2G charity bike ride will begin on Oct. 1, 2025, in Apalachicola and transit along the East Coast, arriving at the Bill the Goat statue inside Gate 1 on Oct. 22, 2025 to kick off 50th Reunion festivities.  In addition to supporting the Class of 1975 Reunion Class Project/Gift, our riders will be encouraging donations to the Emily Whitehead Foundation, Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The riders themselves are covering the entire cost of the ride.
