The US Naval Academy Class of 1975 is embarking on an inspiring journey, cycling nearly 1,200 miles from Apalachicola, Florida, to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, in a charity bike ride dubbed “Gulf to Goat” (G2G). This epic ride, starting October 1, 2025, and concluding on October 22, 2025, at the Bill the Goat statue at the entrance of the Naval Academy, is a celebration of camaraderie, fitness, and philanthropy as part of their 50th reunion festivities.
Among the approximately 19 riders is our own Knights of Columbus Council 8157 Community Director, Dan Murphy, from Duncanville, Texas. A dedicated Knight and Past Grand Knight (2002-2004) and Knight of the Year (2004-2005), Dan has been rigorously training, pedaling 100 kilometers daily to prepare for this grueling 22-day challenge. The route, spanning six states—Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland—features nearly 30,000 feet of elevation gain, with some climbs reaching an 8% grade. Supported by a vehicle, the riders will face unpredictable October weather but remain committed to their mission.
Here’s a glimpse at the ride route they will be following starting on October 1st:

The G2G ride aims to raise funds for several meaningful causes, including the Class of 1975 Reunion Class Project/Gift, the Emily Whitehead Foundation, Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The riders are personally covering all ride expenses, ensuring that every donated dollar goes directly to these charities.
Join us in supporting Dan and his classmates by donating to their chosen causes. Visit the G2G website for more details and to contribute. Let’s cheer on our Brother Knight Dan Murphy as he pedals with purpose, honoring the legacy of the Class of 1975 and making a difference one mile at a time!
Among the riders is Carl H. June, MD, a distinguished American immunologist and oncologist renowned for pioneering chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, a groundbreaking approach that reprograms patients’ own immune cells to combat cancer. An avid cyclist, Dr. June has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine this year and a team of videographers will be documenting every kilometer of this epic ride.
You can follow the riders on their BLOG which will be upadated daily starting October 1st.
God be with you men.
