Juan & Lupita Chapa

Juan and Lupita Chapa, Family of the Month for April, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in March with a trip to Las Vegas. While Lupita enjoyed the slot machines, their itinerary did take them outdoors. Way outdoors: the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. The Chapas met 42 years ago when Juan, who’d moved from Laredo to Chicago as a youngster, was back in Laredo visiting relatives. A cousin invited him out on a double date at a nightclub across the border in Nuevo Laredo. But the chemistry was formed between Juan and his cousin’s date. He told that woman, Lupita, he had “a feeling” he’d be returning soon. His family moved back to South Texas soon, which simplified the courtship. Juan spent seven years in the Army and was honorably discharged in March 1979 as a staff sergeant. He earned an accounting degree from Laredo State in 1983 and moved his young family to Duncanville in 1985, becoming a Knight about 10 years later. Juan is one of the council’s three trustees for the 2012-13 fraternal year. He has worked a regular shift at the Cedar Hill baseball concession stand the past three years and will help Allen Reitmeier schedule staffing at the stand this fall. The Chapas have two grown children, both single. Sergio works for Sam’s Distribution. Rachel works for Duncanville ISD
