Billy and Davida Callender
Married 30 years, the Callenders met as Dallas teens at Don Carter’s All-Star Lanes on Walnut Hill. (Billy, as you might imagine, was hitting the pins so hard that they sailed in all directions.) They have shared their experiences as the hosts of the parish’s Marriage Enrichment program on the last Saturday night of each month during the Faith Formation year. It’s a role that they were asked to do a few years back by the late Anne Keough. Billy is a sales rep for Frito Lay. Friday is the one work day when he has afternoons off. He used that off time during Lent to set up our gym for the fish fry dinners so he could participate in the Stations of the Cross. Davida is an administrator in the prosthetic-orthotic program at UT Southwestern, where she has worked since 2002. Davida is a cradle Catholic while Billy was reared in a Southern Baptist household and came through Holy Spirit’s RCIA program 10 years ago. They have a married daughter, Libby (with two children of her own). Their other daughter, Elizabeth, passed away in July 2011 and also came through Holy Spirit RCIA. Billy donated a kidney to Elizabeth that lasted 16 years. He joined the council last year and now brings that same spirit of selfless giving to the Knights.
