Frank Salazar was in Florida when it was announced at the annual Awards Banquet that he had been elected as the 2012 fraternal year Knight of the Year.  He was quite emotional when phoned during the awards ceremony and expressed his gratitude for everyone’s support.  Frank was the 23rd winner of the Knight of the Year honor and the first to be elected by popular vote.  During the regular business meeting in June everyone present submitted three names to be considered for the honor of Knight of the Year.  The top three vote getters names from this meeting were then submitted to the Council at the next regular business meeting for a final vote for Knight of the Year.   Frank seemed to be present every time and everywhere there was a Knight function this past year.  Frank is a real “hands on” guy and never fails to “jump in” whenever something needs to be done.  Some examples of his hard work are:  Attended every fish fry during Lent the past three years; has been cooking at every pancake breakfast; helped at the seminarian cook-out and twice a year at St. Joseph’s Assisting Living cook-outs; he worked at the ballpark whenever called upon and served as Captain of the Thursday night crew the past two years.  He was there to help at every function that Knights engaged in.  Frank is strong minded and never wavers in his stance to help those in need.  As Deputy Grand Knight, he dispatched his duties with authority and resolve.  He has been the Deputy Grand Knight the past two years and is now ready to take the helm of this Council as Grand Knight.  Frank never looks for acclaim for his deeds and so was quite surprised to receive this award – but certainly well deserving.  Frank, along with his wife Lourdes, live in Grand Prairie and have been married over 42 years – they have 2 children and 5 grandchildren.
