Winter Welcome Jan 25, 2013Procuring and preparing a tasty barbecue meal for almost 200 parishioners was another relatively routine assignment for the Knights during the parish’s annual Winter Welcome hoedown in the community center gym on Friday evening, Jan. 25. The cooking, serving and clean-up contingent consisted of Al and Allen Alonzo, Juan Chapa, Chris Edwards, John Espree, Andy Goza, Tom Greco, Mike Higgins, Jim Richardson, John Rizo Sr., Jorge Ruiz, Jim Russell, Frank Salazar, Art Senato, Doug Skierski and Mario Tiambeng. Special recognition goes to Leo Mattingly and Dan Murphy for their usual splendid job of overseeing the distribution of, uh, adult juices. Jeff Miller helped out with introductions. A number of KC spouses pitched in, some in their roles as parish Zone Shepherds and others simply because there was something to be done. Marce Tebbe’s wife, Brenda, was again the unofficial director of Winter Welcome lighting by stringing the Tebbes’ red chili pepper lights high above the gym floor. And our own Doug Karpan, Community Life Director, was the mastermind of the entire production.

Winter welcome Jan 25, 2013As the dinner wound down and revelers took to the dance floor, some Knights and their wives displayed their nimble-footed talents. (Marce? Mario? Jorge? David Dybala? Just to name a few.) The Winter Welcome is one of the parish’s marquee social events. And as is often the case, our council is a huge reason why it’s so popular.
