Knight Hands

Knight Hands

The mission of Knight Hands is to assist those in the Holy Spirit parish area live a more peaceful and stress free life by providing minor home repairs, household chores, and transportation services to those who qualify. Only Knights of Columbus of this council can refer a needy person to the director of Knight Hands Thus far since the inception of Knight Hands in May of 2010, Knight Hands has completed nearly 500 projects ranging from 280 man/hours to 2 man/hours. All the jobs were important to the receiver and were most appreciated by all. The roster of Knight Hands is quite small and we are constantly looking for more Knights who are willing to give of their time and talents to help needy persons in our parish area. The experience of helping others locally is powerful – just ask these older long time Knight Hands – Bob Lamb, Ken Rarick, Ed O’ Brien, David Dybala, or Allen Reitmeier who have been regular Knight Hands. Charity begins at home and what better way to demonstrate that than by helping those in need in our community. The story of Knight Hands inception and implementation were feature in Columbia magazine in the June 2016 issue. Many other Council around the world inquired how to start a Knight Hands program in their Councils.

David Dybala guides Knight Hans now as Director. He survey a potential job and decides if we can do the work – he almost always says ” yes we’ll do the job” Then he lines up the Knights with the appropriate skills for the job, buys the material needed for the job, gathers all the necessary tools and then schedules the project. With David’ engineering background , he’s just the man for the job. David is involved in so many ministries in our church and community it’s a wonder where he finds the time to handle Knight Hands – but thankfully he does. That happens when you have an engineering degree from Texas A&M and a work ethic like his established early on. David grew up near Houston and joined the Knights in 1978. Before coming to Holy Spirit in 1985, he was the Grand Knight of Council 1358 in Waco (St. Mary of Assumption. David and Clara, his wife of 52 years, came to our area in 1985, have two grown children, four grandchildren and live in Dallas.
