Mike and Susan Fitzgerald

To learn why Mike and Susan Fitzgerald were chosen as the council‘s Family of the Month for September, look elsewhere in this publication and read how they were major contributors to the Knights‘ efforts for the Fall Festival. Here, you‘ll learn how Susan and Mike came to Holy Spirit. Mike moved to Dallas from his native Minnesota and was living on Northwest Highway in 1980 and attending St. Thomas Aquinas. He was invited that February by a co-worker on a “double” blind date that included Susan and one of her former classmates from Mesquite High School. Mike recalls the evening wasn‘t particularly memorable, primarily because the two ladies spent much of the time catching up. Mike was urged by his co-worker to call Susan back, did so, and their courtship soon took off. They were engaged that May and married in November. They‘d decided to move to southwest Dallas County, bought a house in DeSoto while engaged and started attending Holy Spirit. Mike became a Knight in 1999 thanks to an invitation from then Grand Knight Bill Chalko. He soon became the council‘s treasurer and has held the position since. Susan became one of the founding members of Holy Spirit‘s Catholic Daughters court in 2000. The Fitzgeralds moved out to Ovilla in 1986, have three married children (Rita, Thomas and Becky) and five grandchildren.
