In the readings this past Sunday, St. James says it is not enough to hope those who are in need will find help. It is not ecough even to pray they find help. What we must do is step up and help those in need. That spirit was exemplified this past Wednesday September 16th when 8 Knights of Columbus met at the home of Tissy Godwin to repair a number of items on her home in Ovilla.
Larry Balagna and Ray Rivera replaced rotted soffit and fascia boards. Ken Rarick and Al Evans followed up and caulked and scraped the eaves to prepare for painting. David Dybala and Jim Stavinoha secured the rear door threshold (thank goodness David is an engineer), replaced bottom trim on both sides of the exterior door, installed a door stop, and just generally made the entry pleasing to the eye. While all these activities were going on, Jorge Ruiz and Dan Murphy were installing the baseboard trim in the garage (which has been converted to living space for Tissy’s Daughter).
It is a testament to the determination of the Knights of Columbus that these kinds of projects can be accomplished. Everyone at the job site jumped in and did their part to complete the project. Saint James would have been proud of everyone this past Wednesday morning.
Knight Hands has been serving the parish community for the past 5+ years and will continue to follow the words of St. James and help those in need.
