Officer and Knight Ben Luna’s quick judgment call prevents potential tragedy

“A 17-year-old Duncanville boy is alive today because of a judgment call made by a Duncanville police officer who thought the teen had a gun.”

“The gun was a BB gun, but the officer didn’t know that at the time.”

“It all happened Saturday. What could have been a horrible tragedy like others seen around the country was by avoided by a split-second judgment call.”

Officer Ben Luna joined the Duncanville Knights of Council 8157 in April 2014 and has been a member of the Duncanville Police Department for 16 years. He has worked on the SWAT team, as a school resource officer and now on the motor unit. Ben’s family moved from Illinois to the Dallas area when he was a child. He graduated from Duncanville High in 1995. That same year, he met his future wife, Renee, who was attending Mesquite High. They live in Ovilla and have one child – Sayla, 18. Ben plays in a men’s soccer league and also officiates soccer.
