Council 8157 kicked off its new fraternal year this past Saturday, July 16, 2016 with a most eventful evening. First the Knights gathered to attend Corporate Communion Mass at Holy Spirit with celebrant Fr. Eugene, a Fourth Degree Sir Knight himself.

Following the mass the Knights gathered at the church’s dining hall for the Installation of Officers ceremony.

The Awards Banquet

Finally the grand event of the evening, the Awards Banquet started off with an Italian dinner prepared for us by Sam’s Pizza & Pasta in Cedar Hill. Once again our very capable Council Activities Director, Sir Knight Andy Goza did an outstanding job organizing the evening’s activities and serving as our Master of Ceremonies.

A total of fifty “Certificate of Appreciation” awards were given to all the Officers, Program Directors and Committee Members of our Council in recognition of their important service in their respective roles. With the determination and speedy tone of a masterful auctioneer, our M.C. Andy Goza called the recipients one by one as he read their dedications and accomplishments.

The Knight of the Year

awards-banquet-2016-07-149 of 152

Finally the moment we had all been waiting for, the announcement of the new Knight of the Year. For this award our M.C. Andy Goza handed the mic to our new Grand Knight Jim Richardson so he could do the honors. Sir Knight Jeff Miller was voted the recipient of this prestigious award, and very well deserved indeed.

As it is customary in our council, the last announcement of the evening was that the Knight of the Year recipient should be the last to leave but only after everything is cleaned, washed, swept, put away and the trash is thrown out. Of course he did have a little help from his wife Frances, and a few of the other Knights chipped in to help too. 😉

Once again, our sincere congratulations to Sir Knight Jeff Miller on a well deserved award.
