Our June Family of the Month, Russell and Tricia Gully, met in Austin. Tricia was working in Austin and attended a monthly meeting of her parish’s young adults organization. That happened to take place in Russell’s apartment. (The ministry chaplain later celebrated their wedding Mass.) The Gullys have been parishioners since 1986, when they moved to DeSoto, and Russell joined the Knights in March 1987. He served as Grand Knight during the fraternal years of 1994-95 and ’95-96, the first years that 8157 earned Star Council. Russell grew about 10 miles outside of San Angelo in the unincorporated community of Wall (population est. 200). After high school, he attended nearby Angelo State for a year and then transferred to the University of Texas. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and later added a law degree. Russell joined the Dallas law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP and has been there ever since, now spe-cializing in employee benefits. Tricia frequently attends daily Mass. The Gullys have three daughters. Monica graduated from UT last year, works in the school’s liberal arts department and is engaged to be married next year. Teresa is also at UT, studying nutrition (and currently living with Monica). Rachel is headed into the eighth grade at Bishop Dunne and this summer has volunteered weekly at the Dallas Zoo.
